The other day, I allowed myself to think about well I've done not to get the flu or even a cold this winter. Alas, fate heard me. I almost made it this year, but eventually the combination of the weather and kids in school got to me. At least spring isn't too far away.
Transaction Capital has been suffering from an ailment far worse than Man Flu, if you can believe that such a terrible thing even exists. With nobody really talking about the post-WeBuyCars leftovers in Transaction Capital, I was pleased to see that they sold part of Nutun for what appears to be a pretty juicy price. The value unlock continues, but there's no chance of them ever getting back to where they were before SA Taxi broke. In contrast, a company like ADvTECH is continuing its steady growth path, putting in another period of double-digit earnings growth.
As you can see, there are many different types of companies and investment opportunities in the market. By covering everything that comes out on SENS, Ghost Bites can help you identify the ones you want to really look into. Along with those stories and some important stuff from the likes of Aveng and DRDGOLD among others, you'll find it here>>>
The variety in the markets extends to the different trading strategies that you can follow as well. This was the topic for the latest episode of The Trader's Handbook, my podcast series in collaboration with IG Markets South Africa. Fresh out the oven this morning, this podcast will help you identify what kind of trader you might be. International Business Snippet: |

The US market never stops dishing up interesting deals. Mars, the company that owns M&M (the sweets, not the rapper) is acquiring Kellogg spin-off Kellanova in a deal worth around $36 billion. Just consider for a moment how huge that number is vs. the stuff we see in our local market. Kellanova owns Pringles, so it's probably a great acquisition on that basis alone. I do love Pringles.
Remember the news of a new CEO at Starbucks? Brian Niccol can afford all the sweets he wants, with CNBC reporting that he could earn up to $116.8 million in his first year if they hit their targets. Star-level bucks, indeed.
We are covering Airbnb in Magic Markets Premium this week. For subscribers to Magic Markets Premium, the investment of R99/month is the best investment they can make. |

IG Morning Call: daily macroeconomic update |
---|
|
---|
Slightly better than expected US CPI inflation data yesterday, which moved to a 3.5 year low, has resulted in continued gains in US equity benchmarks.
European Index futures and Asian equity markets are also trading firmer this morning as risk appetite improves. We are expecting a firmer start for the JSE All-Share Index today as well.
The US dollar, while off yesterday’s lows, continues to trade softer. The rand has in turn gained, approaching the R18.00/$ mark.
Oil prices have started to correct from their recent rally after US crude imports were reported to be less than expected by the EIA.
After testing all-time high territory yesterday on a weakened dollar, gold is trading marginally lower this morning.
For traders, US retail and core retail sales data out this afternoon is expected to be the high impact news event to look out for.
Key Indicators: USD/ZAR R18.05/$ | US 10yr 3.84% | Gold $2,454/oz | Platinum $933/oz | Brent Crude $79.54
The macroeconomic update is based on IG's morning call update |
