Today is Tuesday. Temperatures will be in the low 70s with thunderstorms throughout the day. Here's what we're talking about in Maine today.

A guide to Maine’s Tuesday election and how the pandemic will change it
  • Maine will vote on Tuesday in a primary election that was delayed and shaped by the coronavirus pandemic. Here’s a guide to what’s on the ballot, how to vote and how the results will be counted.

  • The Bangor Daily News is the only Maine news organization that collects election results independently. You can watch results come in live on our dedicated webpage while using the panel to navigate results by county and municipality. The BDN and our partners at Decision Desk HQ will project winners in statewide and congressional contests.
Here's the latest on the coronavirus in Maine
  • The Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention is changing its scheduled briefings about the coronavirus pandemic. The briefings will now be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Snap a pic of this spectacular comet now — it won’t be back for 6,800 years

  • To locate NEOWISE, grab some binoculars and look toward the northwest sky. The best time to view the comet is sunset, but it’s expected to shine 10 percent brighter by this weekend. NEOWISE will hang around in the sky until mid-August, and won’t be back this way in any of our lifetimes. Here’s how to get the best photo of it.
The state says school districts should plan for 3 COVID re-opening scenarios in the fall
  • State education and health officials will help school districts identify the COVID-19 related risk factors and health assessments of their communities and, as the school year is about to get underway, which of their three plans — for full in-person instruction, full remote learning, or a hybrid of the two — each district should implement. But district leaders are aware that they might have to change course at any point if COVID-19 cases surge.

Untapped federal funds could help fill gap in Maine virus economic plan

  • A number of Maine libraries are hoping to create COVID-19 archives by asking Mainers to contribute their stories, photos, artwork and other documents about their experience during the pandemic. The goal is to create a large-scale picture of how the state got through the pandemic — the bad, the good and everything in between.
