A Leaf That Might Be a BirdA Poem about Appearances
Everything is waking up The world is singing Coffee poured in a cup I step outside My neighbor smokes Every morning I try to meditate The cigarette is gone In a minute I am all alone Surrounded by birdsong I open and close The eyes Stare across the street Sipping coffee Taking breaths Holding in I see something Yellow Is it a bird Or a leaf So hard to tell I watch And wait Wondering When it will move Or if anything is Ever What it seems The Ghost is a reader-supported publication.
