A Technologist’s Career Journey
Why did Linux guru Wim Coekaerts leave Oracle after 19 years to join Microsoft and then come back to Oracle after just a short stint away? Coekaerts figured out that he’s happiest when he’s working “on something that we can build and ship or something that we build and use,” he says. And he decided that Oracle was the best place for him to do that. And because “Linux has become the operating system of the cloud,” Coekaerts says, he expects a lot more hands-on work and fun ahead.

Many technologists go through the kind of career exploration Coekaerts has, figuring out what makes them happy and where the best home is to do that work. Hear more about Coekaerts’ journey and what he sees ahead for Linux and the cloud, in this profile. — Chris Murphy, Oracle director of cloud content
