Could two 30-minute sessions of weight training per week really make you stronger?

According to a new study, the answer is yes.

During the two-month study, 42 healthy men and women gained significant muscle mass and strength from two 30-minute sessions of uncomplicated resistance exercises each week, Dennis Romboy reported.

The routine was intentionally short, to see what was possible with people's busy schedules.

“We were interested in finding the minimum effective dose,” the study’s senior author, Brad Schoenfeld, told The Washington Post.

What's the goal for the renovation?

The goal is to improve sight lines for hockey while maintaining them for basketball, Brogan Houston reported. The first phase of construction will focus on the lower bowl.

“It’s definitely unique in the sense that most of these two-sport buildings are hockey first and then basketball,” Larry Lippold, the architect leading the project, said. “In this case, we’re really maintaining both sports first, equally.”

What will updates to the project include?

A retractable seating system that will have a range of 12 feet to adjust between the two sports. A new ice floor slab will be installed, raising the floor 2 feet and adding approximately 12 feet at each end of the playing surface. A 450-stall parking structure, which will not be completed during this phase of construction. A 12% increase to bathroom capacities. New premium spaces on Level 1. Four new dehumidifiers. How donated furniture helps those in need feel more at home

North Star Hope Foundation's Furnishing Futures program offers hope to people through furniture. It provides donated furniture to help those transitioning out of homelessness, addiction recovery or in crisis situations.

It recently provided furniture to five recipients in need, and one such person is Stephanie Pickering.

“I lived on the streets for five years, so, like, everything you get you lose,” Pickering said. “So to have something to come home to and like, feel like it’s actually home, instead of just like, well, I have a few things, but like this means everything.”

Parker Paulsen, who works at North Star and helped with the furniture deliveries, pointed out that those who haven’t been through these types of situations don’t understand the toll it takes to not have a dining table or a couch or other basic items in a home that many people take for granted, Caitlin Keith reported.

“It’s been cool to see that burden be lifted and that they can move on to thinking about other problems in their life and tackling other challenges,” Paulsen said.
