There is much anticipation going into this 2023 LSU football season. But before preseason practice could even begin, the Tigers found themselves down a man — at least for now. First-year defensive line coach Jimmy Lindsey has suffered an undisclosed health issue and will be away from the team for a period of time, coach Brian Kelly announced Wednesday. The only word on his condition was that he will eventually return. Meanwhile, Kelly has had to juggle his defensive staff. Our Wilson Alexander has all the details right here. Meanwhile, we read about Kelly challenging perhaps the most critical player to LSU's success this season: quarterback Jayden Daniels. To a certain degree, how Daniels goes will determine how far the Tigers go. Click here to read my pre-preseason practice column. I've got some position battles and key players to share with you that I most have my eye on going into practice. Moving off the practice field, LSU has a new assistant gymnastics coach in Courtney McCool Griffeth. Make that a new old assistant. Griffeth and her husband Garrett have been with LSU for three years now, but Courtney served as a volunteer coach. Now, the NCAA has allowed schools to add a fourth full-time gymnastics coach, so head coach Jay Clark immediately put the former Olympian and NCAA champion at Georgia (Clark recruited her there) on the payroll. Finally, former LSU basketball coach John Brady is resurfacing in a role and at a place where you wouldn't expect to see him. Read more about the latest chapter for the 2006 Final Four coach here.
