Dear Edutopia Friend, Now that most schools are closed due to the coronavirus, many are facing a very difficult period of upheaval and uncertainty. We here at Edutopia would like to acknowledge all that educators and families are doing to foster students' learning during these stressful times. We are inspired by the ways that so many people and organizations have quickly stepped up to try to help one another. It's humanity at its best: educators devoted to sharing advice with others, companies providing free tools, and organizations collaborating to gather and suggest resources. We are hard at work to ensure that Edutopia's mission, to document and disseminate what's working in pre-K-12 education, is more accessible and useful than ever as people seek solutions. In recent days, we have published several first-person perspectives, such as advice from an American teacher working for a school in Beijing and tips from an elementary school educator who shares his home learning plan for students. We are grateful to our amazing community for helpful suggestions such as the importance of shifting mindset during this challenging moment. You can count on us to produce more stories in the coming days and weeks via Edutopia.org and social media. If there's anything you think we should be covering, please let us know. And if you have any thoughts about supporting students' home learning and have the capacity at the moment to share your insights, please reply to this message. I believe we will rise to meet this challenge, together. Let's take care of ourselves and each other. With gratitude, Cindy Johanson Executive Director, Edutopia |
