Dear friends,

We miss you already. Knowing how complicated life has suddenly become for all of us, the team at the Harvard Art Museums joins me in wishing you good health and safety. In this moment of tremendous disruption, we have all needed time to focus on keeping ourselves well.

The Harvard Art Museums made the decision to close to the public on March 12, and our staff has been working remotely since March 14. I am enormously proud of how the team rallied around our shared determination to help protect the well-being of our extended community during this unprecedented public health emergency.

As a museum, we can provide solace or refuge during a crisis; we can encourage creative exploration; we can entertain and inform; we can help remind the world that even in anxious times, there are inspiring objects, undiscovered stories, and fascinating histories that will persist. Art can provide new viewpoints through new windows, allowing our hearts and minds to take flight while we are physically isolated.

We hope to play a small part in expanding your world just when it may seem to be shrinking. In the coming days and weeks, our team will share a range of engaging content through our website, dedicated emails, and our regular social media channels. I invite you to take a moment when you can to enjoy a work of art, a glimpse behind the scenes, a short video, and much more. To kick things off:

If you haven’t already subscribed to our monthly newsletter, you can do so here. We also welcome you to follow us on Facebook and Instagram.

Finally, we are fortunate to be part of a world-class university with experts who can help illuminate the genesis and progression of COVID-19; please check out this extensive list of articles to learn more. I look forward to our virtual conversations, and in the meantime I wish good health to you and yours.

Be well,
