New bridge to join 'new bridge?'

with Kelly P. Kissel | Metro editor

Happy Monday. Here are some of our top headlines to start the week:

When will Baton Rouge get a new bridge?

Gov. John Bel Edwards is expected to lay out a potential funding plan for a new Mississippi River bridge at Baton Rouge. He's laying out his proposed budget plan today, and there could be money in line for a new bridge.

Once a new span is built, Baton Rouge will need to find a new name for the I-10 river crossing built when I was a kid. We still call it the "new bridge" even though it's almost 54 years old.

Hit and run on Jefferson

State police are seeking the driver of a Dodge Ram that may have been involved with a hit-and-run along Jefferson Highway in southeastern East Baton Rouge Parish. The vehicle's passenger side mirror was ripped off when the truck hit a pedestrian, killing her.

Schools returning after 2016 floods

Slowly but surely, Livingston Parish schools are still recovering from the 2016 floods. The district hopes that a combined Southside Elementary and Junior High will open this fall. The site is being billed as a state-of-the-art learning space.

We appreciate your dropping in. Check back later for more.
