A new downtown restaurant. And officials grilled over French Quarter trash contract.

Council politics: New Orleans City Council members grilled officials about a hotly-disputed garbage contract in the French Quarter, lambasting the mayor and city attorney for not appearing themselves. And the public works department may face a council investigation after employees accused department leaders of harassment and retaliation.

Trial begins: Jury selection is expected to begin today for Bunnak "Hannah" Landon, the Harahan woman accused of killing her boyfriend's 6-year-old daughter and leaving the child's body in a bucket on her biological mother's front yard.

Turning the tide: Former New Orleans mayor Mitch Landrieu has embarked on a nationwide listening tour of working-class people to try to reverse the Democratic Party's failures. "... We have to properly diagnose the illness," he said.

New restaurant: Toups’ Meatery is a small neighborhood restaurant that always goes big in Cajun flavor, and now the owners are opening a new downtown restaurant.
