We've got some big news this week for fans of
Big Ideas. After 10 years hosting the show, presenter Paul Barclay is moving on from the ABC – and passing over the baton to award-winning journalist Natasha Mitchell.
You might already know Natasha as the host of Science Friction (or before that, Life Matters and All In the Mind). She already regularly hosts public events, debates and forums around Australia.
"Right now, the world needs dedicated spaces like Big Ideas for deep listening and robust thinking, to inspire solutions to the mighty challenges of our time," she says. "I can't wait to get amongst it."
Paul Barclay's last Big Ideas will air on RN on Thursday, April 6 and Natasha Mitchell will host the show from April 10.
In this newsletter, we've also got
the story of Warren Macdonald, who ended up trapped under a boulder for 40 hours after following a new friend on a hike in Far North Queensland.
It's part of
Earshot's new seven-part series telling stories of following – to the other side of the world, to the top of a mountain, or into oblivion.
And for Brisbane science lovers, this weekend is the World Science Festival. If you're reading this early on Saturday, you might have time to get to
Paul Barclay's panel this morning. Later on Saturday, you can catch the Health Report's Tegan Taylor at
Night of the Nerds. Until next time,
Rosie Ryan, digital editor
