Tell the White House and Senate to appoint a fifth FCC commissioner

Free Press Action

We’ve waited long enough for a fully functional FCC. Tell the Biden administration and Senate to appoint a fifth FCC commissioner now. We’ve got important work to do.

Friend,

In the waning days of the last administration, the Trump White House and Republican-controlled Senate gave us one final parting gift: a deadlocked FCC. And we’re still waiting for President Biden and the Senate to nominate and confirm a fifth commissioner.

Here’s a non-comprehensive list of priorities that are currently on hold: Tell Biden and the Senate to take action now.

  • Restoring Net Neutrality and its protection against discrimination by ISPs
  • Investigating the history of racism in the media so we can tailor policies to undo centuries of harms
  • Ensuring that people of color have the means to tell and own their own stories
  • Holding ISPs accountable for their abusive behavior
  • Connecting everyone to broadband and other lifesaving communications networks
  • Investigating the federal government’s response to the devastating post-hurricane communications crisis in Puerto Rico
  • Fixing the mess left behind by Trump’s FCC chairman, Ajit Pai

We can’t keep waiting. We need a fifth commissioner today. Send a note to the White House and your senators urging them to give the nation a fully functioning FCC ASAP.

Thanks for all that you do—
