PRIMAL BLUEPRINT

Hey there,

Today marks the first day of summer. There’s something particularly inviting about the summer months that feels reinvigorating. The weather, for the most part, is enticing, the days are longer and you can’t forget about all the fresh markets now available.

I’m sure for folks in colder climates the change feels even more drastic, as if you’ve truly woken up. You see your neighbors again, this time without layers of clothing. You yourself see your own skin, literally and metaphorically as you shed off your own layers. A sense of community rallies together once more and your social calendars are filled to the brim. The summer is a time to feel truly alive.

For me, this is a time to dig even deeper into my Primal lifestyle. This doesn’t necessarily mean applying a hard core discipline to reach new levels of strictness. In fact, it’s more about slowing down. This is a time for me to challenge myself in a new way—to slow down more than ramp up.

So what does summer look like for you? I’d encourage you to take time and reflect on what could make this summer a new pinnacle for you. What could be done to make this period of the year fulfilling or initiate a new chapter in your life? Even if the summer feels like it’s been accounted for through work or family plans, I challenge you to take a step back and think about what would leave your Primal self fully sated by the end of the summer.

This could be as simple as thinking about your own childhood summers. A lot of it might seem mundane or immature but these memories provide an underlying sense of ease, of subtle ritual, or even unfettered connection. These are often the layers of experience we lose touch with as we grow into adults and expand our energy to managing our own experiences.

One good way to go about this is creating a summer bucket list. Take a look at some of these ideas:

Summer Bucket List Ideas

  • Take a road trip - there’s no better way to experience some place new than through the wide, open road (of course, with current gas prices, maybe a long bicycle trek is more in order)
  • Have a picnic -  put your phones away and enjoy the simple pleasure of eating summer’s bounty outdoors
  • Nap in a hammock - rest is always important and you’ll enjoy the atmosphere of a warm, sunny day
  • Go for a bike ride - this doesn’t have to be an intense workout; even just a leisurely ride during sunset is a fantastic way to keep your body moving while also enjoying the outdoors

These are just some ideas of what you could do to make this summer one of your best. Ultimately, you should create a list of what intrigues you, but do so with the thought of coming away changed.

Let me know what ideas you have that could be different or uniquely Primal about this summer for you. Happy summer everyone.

This is a simple salad with a flavorful lemon tahini dressing. The beauty of this recipe is getting all of the different

Citrus Slaw

Our creamy citrus coleslaw is a refreshing spin on traditional slaw that incorporates zingy lime and bright cilantro alongside cool cabbage. Lighter than the deli favorite, this zesty side goes great with fish tacos.
