They’d adopted her from the pound less than a year after we’d adopted our dog, Dax, and the two grew up together as the best of friends. Any time the Williamses went out of town, we had the honor of watching Sheba in our home. She fit in like part of the family, and her comfort here was obvious. Over the years, we made a point of telling them that if they ever needed a new home for Sheba, we’d take her. We were joking but serious.
