Scooter was the first pet Jack and I shared as a married couple. He was a gorgeous tuxedo with an aloof personality. We picked him out at the ASPCA in Manhattan the first year we were married. At that time, we both worked in the city and lived in a tiny railroad-style apartment on the top floor of a five-floor walkup on the East Side.

Within two years, we realized that city life was not for us, and so one day we packed up our few possessions and moved into a one-bedroom in the suburbs of Connecticut. A mansion compared to our city dwelling. (Keep reading)
