A record night for LSU gymnastics

A week earlier in a 197.325-197.225 loss at Missouri, LSU gymnastics coach Jay Clark said his team didn't live up to its lofty standards.

Friday night in the PMAC against Arkansas, the Tigers set a new standard.

No. 5-ranked LSU rolled to a 198.375-196.200 victory over the No. 7 Razorbacks, eclipsing the school record team score of 198.375 set in March 2015 against Minnesota.

Haleigh Bryant continued to do Haleigh Bryant things, posting the 12th perfect 10 of her career on floor and winning the all-around title by tying her personal mark of 39.825. But freshman Konnor McClain may have stolen the show, posting 9.975s on beam and floor (that means one of the two judges gave her a 10 in both events) and a 9.925 on bars. Kiya Johnson also had a 9.975 on floor.

"I'm glad you're on our team," Clark said quietly to McClain after her beam performance.

A master of understatement he is.

We've got a photo gallery for you by our Michael Johnson from Friday's meet as well.

As soon as the meet ended and folks cleared the floor, work crews began dismantling the gymnastics equipment to make way for the LSU men's basketball team's 11 a.m. game Saturday also against Arkansas on ESPN2. The Tigers really need some mojo to still be coursing through the PMAC from gymnastics' win to snap a three-game SEC losing streak.

How hard do we work to bring LSU news and insights to you? Our Koki Riley was out on the Mississippi River levee this morning near the LSU vet school, watching Brian Kelly release a bald eagle the school treated back into the wild. We've got a photo gallery of that, too.

Women's basketball is back in action Sunday at home against Florida, when there will be an official ceremony to recognize the court being co-named for the late Hall of Famer Sue Gunter.

Finally, we have an Associated Press report on the 15-year sanctions (yes, 15) handed down by the NCAA against former Alabama baseball coach Brad Bohannon, who provided inside information on his team to a bettor during the Crimson Tide's series against LSU this past season. You won't believe some of the penalties or the details from this one.

That's all we've got folks. Not too bad for a Saturday morning, if we may say so.

Until next time,

Scott Rabalais
