An early morning fire Tuesday caused extensive damage to the historic John H.
Stevens home in Minneapolis.

Built around 1850 near the Mississippi River and later moved to Minnehaha Park, it's
one of the oldest residential structures in the city.

Minneapolis Park Board spokesperson Dawn Sommers says the home will need a
detailed damage assessment.

"We would want to do whatever we could do that is feasible to save the structure, it's
got a lot of historical significance, but at this point it's just really too early to determine
what the next steps will be."

Minneapolis fire officials are investigating what started the blaze.
