It's the curious case of the disappearing LSU running back corps. Since the end of the season, the Tigers' running backs tank has been angling toward empty. Monday was the latest departure, as Noah Cain announced he is making himself eligible for the NFL draft. The Tigers had eight running backs at one time during the 2023 season. Five have since left, including Logan Diggs surprisingly to the transfer portal. The Tigers are set to bring back sixth-year senior Josh Williams along with sophomore Kaleb Jackson and redshirt sophomore Trey Holly. They also signed four-star running back Caden Durham in December. No transfers off the LSU men's basketball team, not after the Tigers' surprising 68-53 SEC opening win Saturday at Texas A&M. LSU is back at home Tuesday night to take on Vanderbilt in the PMAC, trying to go 2-0 to open conference play. Remember the Tigers opened SEC play by beating No. 9 Arkansas last season, then lost 13 straight conference games (14 straight total). We'll see if things are different for the Tigers this season. The LSU women's basketball team is already 2-0 in SEC play after its 84-73 win Sunday at Ole Miss. Our Reed Darcey was there and has the recap from a big win in front of a record crowd in Oxford. Not the best news for the LSU gymnastics team coming off its season-opening win against Ohio State, as the Tigers will be without a key gymnast for the rest of the season after an Achilles injury. The gym Tigers are on the road Saturday near Salt Lake City for a four-team meet with Oklahoma, Utah and UCLA. It will soon be baseball season, and our new baseball writer Koki Riley has this look at some of the key issues facing the Tigers a little over five weeks from their season opener. Football, both basketball teams, baseball and gymnastics. That's a well-rounded plate of LSU sports news. We'll have more of course tomorrow and every day, so please keep reading. Thanks and until next time, Scott Rabalais |
