THE BIG STORY
10 people, including a police officer, were killed in a shooting at a supermarket in Boulder, Colorado
One person was taken into custody following a shooting at a King Soopers grocery store that left ten people dead, including a police officer, in Boulder, Colorado.
Police chief Maris Herold identified Eric Talley as the officer who was killed while responding to the standoff. The names of the other nine victims would not be released until families were notified, Herold said.
Livestreams at the scene showed police in tactical gear attempting to enter the store, the windows of which were broken. In one livestream, a shirtless man was seen being led out in handcuffs.
Neven and Quin Sloan told us they were inside King Soopers when they first heard a loud bang that seemed to come from outside the store. Once Neven heard the bangs inside the side, he said, “I sprinted over to her and just shoved her out the door and was like, ‘Hey, we've got to go.’”
David Pendlebery told us he hid in the store's bathroom, crouching behind a toilet when shots rang out. He stayed there for about 20 minutes until the noise quieted down and escaped through an emergency exit.

The latest developments with the AstraZeneca vaccine
In a press release on Monday, AstraZeneca announced that results of the key US trial of its COVID-19 vaccine have exceeded expectations.
In a trial involving more than 32,000 volunteers, about two-thirds of whom received the vaccine, the shots had a 79% efficacy in preventing symptomatic COVID-19. For AstraZeneca, this is a big deal — earlier results from trials in the UK and Brazil had indicated around 70% efficacy overall, but scientists were critical of those trials.
But hold up — a few hours later, AstraZeneca hit a new complication: federal health officials said in a statement issued just after midnight that AstraZeneca’s results “may have provided an incomplete view of the efficacy data,” reported the New York Times. SNAPSHOTS

Bankers and regulators want more cooperation to combat money laundering
In fall of 2020, we published the FinCEN Files investigation, a groundbreaking investigation in partnership with the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists.
The investigation roiled the financial industry. The articles, based on a trove of thousands of closely guarded Treasury Department records, exposed the torrent of dirty money that the world’s most powerful banks transact in plain view of government watchdogs.
At an online conference entitled “FinCEN Leak: Next Steps for the Financial Industry,” financial industry experts called for greater cooperation between bankers and law enforcement to help curtail the types of corruption and white collar crime. TRUSTED SOURCES
