A Utah-based company is working to improve the health and mobility of a wide range of users who use wheelchairs or face walking challenges with a novel electric-powered stand-up wheelchair design.
According to Bill Winchester, who uses Matia Robotics' stand-up wheelchair, some of the benefits include:
- A higher level of autonomy.
- Better bowel and bladder function.
- Improved bone density.
- Reduced pressure sores.
- Improved circulation.
- Positive psychological impacts.
“You don’t realize until you’re confined to sitting down how important the psychological benefits of face-to-face interactions are,” Winchester said.
