A star-spangled sports update

Hello, everyone, and a happy Independence Day to you wherever you may be.

It's a day for fireworks, swimming pools and lots of things grilling on the barbecue. At the Rabalais household we've got shrimp, chicken and sausage on the menu.

I know, no burgers. Don't judge. Just trying to be a little outside the box.

As is typical this time of year, the LSU sports news slows to a trickle. Of course, things are about to get jumping again very soon with SEC Media Days July 15-18 in Dallas (LSU is on the first day), followed quickly by the Paris Olympics starting July 26.

So let's go over a couple of things you may have missed in the last couple of days, starting with our tracker files.

We've got the LSU baseball transfer portal tracker right here, including news on pitcher Thatcher Hurd's departure.

And we've got the LSU/Louisiana Olympic athlete tracker right there.

Both of them we're keeping updated, on a regular basis, so check back frequently.

In other news, former LSU women's baskeball All-American Angel Reese and Caitlin Clark are making some WNBA All-Star Game news. Find out what's what by clicking this link.

Speaking of basketball, the LSU men's basketball team's non-conference schedule is rounding into shape. The Tigers now have a two-year, dual neutral site series planned for the next two seasons.

Finally, a little college football talk. Two LSU stars were named this week to the Walter Camp Preseason All-America team. And our sports gambling czar Thomas Casale is here with is predictions for the top 12 contenders for the new 12-team College Football Playoff. See where he ranks LSU going into the season.

That's all for now, folks. Hope you have a safe and joyous Fourth of July.

Scott Rabalais
