The Style Invitational

Dear Loser, Aspiring Loser or General Hanger-On:

It's time for another chance to put a caption on one of Bob Staake's inimitable cartoons -- this time featuring a crocodile with a complementary-nosed human, a rocket upside-down on the launch pad, and more.

And we have the results of our "Poed" contest: four lines, each with six syllables -- but the first line has exactly six words; the second line three words; the third, two; and the final line one six-syllable word. The subject matter? Of course, there are verses about him. But lots of non-Trump as well.

In my online column The Style Conversational, I tell about the prize that ironically will go to a poet who's been published in Highlights for Children: It's a book of "offensively tweaked covers" of old-time children's books; I share three of the covers, by one "Arthur C. Gackley."
