A surge in cases of RSV, a virus that can severely sicken infants, is filling hospital beds

Hospitals across the country are reporting an increase in cases of RSV, or respiratory syncytial virus. Doctors in five states say pediatric hospital bed capacity has been strained.

For many kids, RSV symptoms resemble a common cold, but for young babies or children with weakened immune systems, symptoms can be more severe and lead to lung infections.
