Union victory: Proposed laws aimed at weakening public-sector unions died Wednesday in the Louisiana Legislature, in a major victory for the more than 150 union members and activists who rallied at the State Capitol to protest the bills. James Finn has more on the surprising outcome.
Nyx nixed? The fate of the controversial Mystic Krewe of Nyx hangs in the balance today, when the New Orleans City Council plans to vote to deny or extend its parade permit. Doug MacCash explains why City Councilman JP Morrell hopes to remove the Nyx parade from the ranks of the Crescent City's 34 official Carnival float parades.
Crash scheme: Federal charges against dozens of people and the killing of a key witness may not have been enough to snuff out a scheme to stage vehicle crashes into big rigs in the New Orleans area for hefty insurance payouts. Authorities said in court Wednesday that a recent search revealed further evidence of "ongoing crimes involving fraud.” John Simerman has the details from court.
