A tragic discovery on the Mississippi River

By Chad Calder | Staff writer

Tragic discovery: Nine days after three children entered the Mississippi River in Algiers, one of the bodies has surfaced near Crescent City Park across the channel. Missy Wilkinson has the story of 15-year-old Kevin Poole Jr., who family members say lost his life trying to help his girlfriend after she fell into the water.

The return of the Honey Badger: Tyrann Mathieu, the star defensive back who came up locally through St. Aug and LSU, is coming back to Louisiana. The New Orleans Saints are expected to sign Mathieu, nicknamed as the Honey Badger, to a deal. Reporter Amie Just has more about the expected terms of the contract, and columnist Rod Walker offers his thoughts as well.

Who will pay the prosecutors? The north shore is not the place you'd expect to see law enforcement defunded, but that's what the District Attorney says has happened to his office. Now that voters have rejected yet another attempt to make up for a funding shortfall that began in 2018, DA Warren Montgomery says he's been forced to sue St. Tammany Parish. Sara Pagones has it all explained here.

Bidder rivals: Trash collection across the eastern portion of the city is up for grabs and four garbage contractors are trying to win the contract. Their lawyers, as Joseph Cranny reports, appear to be well acquainted.
