Good morning, and welcome to the Saints Insider newsletter for August 2. Did you hear that? That thudding noise can only mean one thing: The pads came on, and the Saints played something approximately like real football for the first time since their 2021 season came to an end. The first padded practice taught us some things, and we observed them. One of the things we learned is that Trevor Penning's reputation really did precede him. We all heard back when they drafted him that the rookie left tackle might get into a scrape here and there, and sure enough, he was involved in the Saints' first scuffle of camp. That reminded Jeff Duncan of a few others. We also learned a little more about Paulson Adebo, and how he might just be starting to scratch the surface. We also learned a few other things that didn't depend on pads. Tyrann Mathieu is still not here. Alvin Kamara was here, instead of Las Vegas where he had a court date scheduled, and now we'll all wait at least two more months for more on that front. If you're a visual learner, you can see what you can glean from photographer David Grunfeld's photo gallery. Be sure to keep it locked on NOLA.com throughout the week for all of our training camp coverage. Thanks, as always, for your support. Cheers, Luke Johnson |
