Taking a pounding

The UK is taking more hits than when we dished out a 32-12 hammering to England in the Rugby World Cup Final. The pound may be British, but it isn't so great anymore, reaching an all-time low against the dollar.

As TreasuryONE reminds us though, we shouldn't be too smug. Emerging markets currencies have faced a perfect storm and the rand hasn't been spared, trading at over R18 against the dollar. Your next online subscription to US tech products is going to hurt.

Commodities had a positive day at least after being hammered on Friday. Brent Crude traded over 1% higher, copper bounced from the $7,400 mark, PGMs traded higher and gold was just below $1,650.

The Toddler, the Labrador and the Cat

No, I haven't branched out into writing books for kids, though I must acknowledge that The Ugly Five (a Toddler Ghost favourite) could easily be a headline for an article about the markets at the moment.

I love analogies. They really do help with understanding and remembering key concepts. In this article for bizval, I used some fun examples to explain why it is so important for an entrepreneur to build a business that becomes independent. If it can't stand on its own feet, it can't be sold! Read it here>>>

Can you protect your portfolio from the next market downturn?
The Toddler and the Labrador

Oh yes, and the cat! When you're building a business you want to sell one day, there are things you should learn from the cat. This is a fun article about a seriously important topic.

As Putin mobilises troops for Ukraine, the macroeconomic picture continues to deteriorate. Will this move make a significant difference in the war, or will it be more of the same for Putin? Chris Gilmour gives his view.
