Desert Wind Vineyard Update

After a short season and a fairly heavy crop in 2022, the 2023 growing season has started out much more favorably but with a significantly lighter crop at our Desert Wind estate vineyards.

While we like to start with a heavy crop where we can be selective on what we thin, there are also some great advantages to a naturally light crop, such as:
- Earlier and more consistent ripening
- Decrease in labor cost
- A better canopy with a lighter crop, which we are seeing

We’ve been spending the last month leafing with the goal being to expose the clusters to more sunlight on the east side of the canopy. We are partially through a light cluster thinning pass to remove any congestion and tertiary clusters, which are small, late setting clusters that struggle to mature.

Overall, I’m very excited about the potential superior quality of the 2023 vintage!

Cheers,
Josh Lawrence
