Celebrations, Football and Special Guests

August was filled with exciting events and inspiring experiences at our Skate Schools around the world. One of the most notable events of the month was in Johannesburg, where we celebrated one year of the Skate School. We recognized this by highlighting the impact of our programs on the lives of local youth, whilst our students celebrated it by skateboarding!Over in Kabul, Back-to-School students finished their second-grade exams. In both Afghanistan and Cambodia there were visits from some very special guests which you can see in this newsletter if you just keep scrolling.

Football Time! Skateistan Mazar vs Mazar National Team

At Skateistan in Mazar, a group of Youth Leaders and staff members joined together to start a football team. Last week, they headed out to compete in a friendly match against the Mazar National Team. Although they didn't win, it was a great experience. "As we are the new team we can beat them in the future and not worry about this time – it can teach us many good things." said a Skateistan team player.

Dropping In: Students Inspired by Pilot at Women's Day Event

In celebration of National Women’s Day in South Africa, our Johannesburg Skate School prepared a full day of festivities supported by the Embassy of Denmark in South Africa. We invited along two special guest speakers: firefighter Lydia Mashela and pilot Palesa Khoza to be part of the day. The two successful women inspired students with presentations about their personal journeys and careers and then spent the day with them answering all their questions and joining in with activities.
