June 16, 2022

Greetings from Toronto! I'm getting a lot of work done while my wife and kids catch up on lost family time. I finally finished our review of the Weekapaug Inn in Rhode Island (photo above).

It looks like American Airlines is having another bad day when it comes to operations as they've already canceled 136 flights and delayed over 346 and it's only 12:40pm ET. They're not the only U.S. carrier having problems today, thanks to thunderstorms in the northeast. Here's what to do about weather delays and flight cancellations.

American Airlines Brings Back Change Fees and Southwest Airlines Throws Them Shade
Speaking of American Airlines, did you see that they are bringing back change fees in certain markets? Southwest Airlines rightly (and hilariously!) threw them some serious shade. Here's the story

Why Those Double Decker Seats Everyone’s Talking About Aren’t Going to Fly
A story about the future of air travel and double decker seats has gone viral and has been the talk of the industry. But one look at the photos and my take is: These aren't going to fly - literally or figuratively. Here's why.

Two Great Amazon Products to Help You Sleep Better When You Travel
A good night’s sleep is essential when you’re on the road but there are lots of things that can hinder shuteye in a hotel room. For starters: thin walls and loud neighbors, elevators, alarm clocks that aren’t shut off, pillows that are too soft or too hard, blankets that are too thin, too heavy or too scratchy … the list goes on. But one thing that always gets in the way of a good night’s sleep for me in a hotel room is too much light. Here's what you can do about it

This Week's Travel Tips
The Super Cool New iPhone Feature You Didn't Even Know You Had
Yesterday, I went for a walk with my kids in the woods and my son kept asking what each plant was. Instead of saying, "I have no clue," over and over again, I whipped out my phone and used an app, which made him look at me like I was a horticulturalist. I also discovered a super cool new iPhone feature that enables users to look up plant names with just a couple of taps - but it also works for popular landmarks. Here's how it works.

If a Flight Attendant Asks You Not to Do This, Please Don't
Today's tip was inspired by an incident out of the UK and it really made me shake my head in disbelief. I can't believe how selfish some passengers can be. We've seen so many incidents involving flight attendants and passengers in the last couple of years but this is a problem that has persisted for longer than that. Any time you disobey a crew member's instructions, you run the risk of violating federal law. Here's the story and what NOT to do.

Travel Host Tests Positive for COVID in Paris - Here's What He Learned
My buddy and travel show host just tested positive for COVID-19 two days after arriving in Paris. He was kind enough to share his experience and what he learned from his mistakes to help others when they travel internationally. He also shared a helpful website for those looking to find American medication equivalents in France (spoiler alert … they’re not the same). Here's the story.

WOW: Marriott Bonvoy Credit Card Offering Five Free Nights
Marriott has an incredible new limited time credit card offer with five free nights so I applied for it. Unfortunately, I wasn't accepted since I already have an Marriott Amex card. Here are the details. I'm bummed because when we were in Connecticut I cashed in my free Marriott Nights at the Stamford Residence Inn that I had left over from my Amex card so now I need to figure out how I can replenish my points.

Travel Tweet of the Day
@JTGenter: Two hours ago, I stepped off the @flynorse inaugural flight. And I'm still in the immigration line to enter Schengen. To give you an idea of how slow this line is: My Fitbit just buzzed to let me know that I have only walked 125 steps in the past 50 minutes.
