AB Espresso: Dubai announces major new contracting law

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai has issued Law No. (7) of 2025 to regulate contracting activities in Dubai. The law aims to support the development of key industries and enhance governance in the sector in line with international standards.

In other major developments, Dubai Police arrested and extradited three Belgian nationals wanted for cross-border organised crime. The suspects were apprehended under INTERPOL red notices and handed over to Belgian authorities in coordination with Europol.

Aside from this, the UNESCO World Heritage Committee has inscribed Sharjah’s Faya Palaeolandscape under the Cultural Landscape category. It becomes the UAE’s second World Heritage site after Al Ain and holds evidence of human habitation dating back over 200,000 years.

On the transport front, Emirates reported a 7 per cent increase in flight searches for summer 2025, with Vietnam recording a 61 per cent rise. The airline now operates 25 weekly flights to Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, and Da Nang.

Meanwhile, India’s Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau released a preliminary report into the June 12 Air India crash, which killed 260 people. The report suggests cockpit confusion and accidental flipping of engine fuel cutoff switches led to fuel starvation and loss of thrust.
