Private sector firms in the UAE have just 10 days to meet Emiratisation targets or face fines, according to the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation. The targets call for a 1 per cent increase in Emiratis employed in skilled jobs at companies with 50 or more employees by June 30. This deadline is in line with a Cabinet resolution on Emiratisation rates. Going forward, the ministry will monitor compliance starting July 1.

In other news, Dubai Police confiscated more than 4,450 scooters and bicycles in the first half of 2024, according to official statistics. Major General Abdullah Ali Al Ghaithi, Assistant Commandant for Operations Affairs at Dubai Police, emphasised the force’s commitment to raising traffic awareness and promoting a culture of safety among road users that prevents traffic accidents and related fatalities, ensuring the highest levels of safety for all. Al Ghaithi stated that Dubai Police is dedicated to enhancing road safety through intensified traffic control operations.

Meanwhile, the Central Bank of the United Arab Emirates (CBUAE) has released its 2023 Annual Report, marking its Golden Jubilee and outlining significant achievements and strategic initiatives aimed at fostering financial stability and economic growth. The UAE’s real GDP growth was recorded at 3.6 percent in 2023, with projections indicating an increase to 3.9 percent in 2024, driven primarily “by a robust growth” of 5.4 percent in the non-oil sector, the report said, citing Sheikh Mansour Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President, Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of The Presidential Court and Chairman of the Board of Directors.

Aside from this, Etihad Airways is celebrating the launch of flights to eight destinations this June as it massively expands its network. This month’s new and returning destinations include India, Bali, Turkey, Spain, France and Saudi Arabia. The new additions take the total number of operating routes this summer to 76.

In Saudi Arabia, the kingdom's Ministry of Hajj and Umrah has begun issuing Umrah visas to streamline Umrah performers’ arrivals to the Kingdom and ensure a smooth and worry-free experience. This annual initiative follows immediately after the Hajj season. It leverages the ministry’s expertise and establishes technical and field programs to serve pilgrims and Umrah performers and facilitate their rituals.
