#1   ABC Relaunches Streaming Service with a Mixture of Older Shows and Original Short-Form Series
ABC has relaunched its streaming service with full seasons of 38 older shows and seven original digital short-form series. The content will be available to all viewers on ABC.com as well as ABCs apps for mobile and connected TV devices, without requiring users to authenticate their pay-TV subscriptions.
Why This Matters: The redesigned app also provides a live stream of the network in 14 additional markets, bringing the total to 20. The stations added are owned by Hearst, the first affiliate group to launch an ABC live feed.

#3   OTA TV Grows as 25% of Homes Shun Traditional Pay TV
According to a new report from market research firm GfK, almost a quarter of U.S. TV households have neither a cable nor satellite subscription, with younger people even more likely than the general population to be over-the-air-only viewers.
Why This Matters: GfK's 2016 Ownership and Trend Report also found that 17% of U.S. TV households rely on over-the-air broadcast service, up from 15% in 2015, while another 6% rely exclusively on Internet video services, including Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hulu or YouTube, up from 4% in 2015.

THE CHATTER
"The easy explanation for last week’s Comcast-Netflix agreement is simply that Netflix has become too big for MVPDs to ignore. Having 47 million U.S. subscribers will tend to do that for you. The more interesting question is what this partnership will mean for other TV apps on X1 and other operator boxes set to follow. My strong prediction is that ‘Netflix exceptionalism’ will not last, and we’ll see an emerging ecosystem of apps on the X1 by the end of 2017."

Portugal-France Sets Live Sports Streaming Record on Akamai
By Chris Nicholson, Akamai

Akamai set a new peak-traffic record for a live sports event delivered on our platform during last weekend's Portugal-France championship match of the quadrennial European football (soccer) tournament. The 7.3 Tbps peak, which was hit during the match's overtime period, eclipsed the former live sports record of 7.0 Tbps generated by the Argentina-Netherlands semifinal in the 2014 World Cup. The championship match also drove a peak of more than 3.3 million concurrent streams. More
