The Wake Up

TUESDAY, NOV. 14, 2023

Last week, we learned that no county in Ohio voted more overwhelmingly in favor of abortion rights than Cuyahoga. After all the records requests came in following the Issue 1 vote, on Monday we discovered that every single city, village and township in Cuyahoga County voted yes for abortion access, according to unofficial election results.

That consists of 59 locations.

Shaker Heights led the movement with 89.9% of voters saying yes to enshrining abortion rights into the state constitution, followed by neighbor suburbs Warrensville Heights (88.8%), Highland Hills (88.3%) and Cleveland Heights (87.7%).

Where were the thinnest margins? The Southern suburbs – at a rate of just over one out of every two voters. Walton Hills had the lowest percentage at 50.9%, followed by Valley View (51.2%), Independence (52.7%) and North Royalton (54.8%).

Overall in Cuyahoga, the constitutional change passed with 73.2% saying yes. Statewide, Issue 1 passed with 56.6% of the vote.

Today, we will publish the county's city-by-city results for recreational marijuana (Issue 2) on cleveland.com.
