| Integrative Medicine Therapies | | MSK Blog Explores the Science Behind Turmeric with Integrative Medicine Service Pharmacist Dr. Jason Hou
Turmeric is a spice native to Southeast Asia that has been used for over 5,000 years to treat ailments such as skin disorders and digestive issues. Research suggests that turmeric may help prevent cancer growth and kill certain cancer cells. In a recent blog post, What Are the Benefits of Turmeric — and Can It Be Used to Prevent or Treat Cancer? | | | Take Note Of: Pollen Extract | | Pollen extract is an ingredient in a standardized Swedish formula that is promoted to reduce hot flashes. It is made from grasses (pollen and pistils) that include cereal and bamboo grasses and should not be confused with pollen harvested by bees.
A few studies suggest that pollen extract may help alleviate premenstrual and menopausal symptoms. The mechanisms underlying these effects are not known, but pollen extract appears not to have hormonal effects.
Pollen extract has yet to be studied in cancer patients to determine its safety and effectiveness. | | | |
