Abuse preceded baby's killing, family says

An autopsy found that an 8-month-old boy allegedly killed by his father had fractured ribs, punctured lungs and other severely damaged organs. But the baby's family says he was neglected in addition to being apparently beaten. Jacqueline DeRobertis has the heartbreaking details.


St. Helena bribery case

When the president of St. Helena Parish’s police jury tried to wring money for himself out of Hurricane Ida cleanup work, authorities were listening, according to newly released arrest documents. James Finn and Sam Karlin bring us the latest in the corruption prove into Frank E. Johnson. Read it here. 


Ratepayers bear the burden

Utility regulators gave approval to Entergy Corp.'s Louisiana subsidiary to issue bonds to cover $3.2 billion of the repair and restoration costs related to the storms that clobbered the state in 2020 and 2021. The approval by the Louisiana Public Service Commission effectively passes on those costs to Entergy Louisiana ratepayers, who will pay back the bonds over 15 years through a surcharge on their monthly bills.
