State, regional and local elected officials did a victory lap of sorts for the First Solar project Thursday down at the Acadiana Regional Airport near New Iberia, and it was well-deserved. The business will invest over $1 billion in the project and employ 700 at the plant. It's a deal with an impact that will be felt throughout the region. UL and SLCC will play a large role, officials say, in ensuring it has a qualified workforce to be successful. And, according to Iberia Parish President Larry Richard, people who are from the area but working in Houston have already inquired about applying for jobs so they can move back home.
