Just when you thought it was a done deal, The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission says that removing TPG, which it viewed as being on the way to becoming a fourth mobile competitor in Australia, from the fray through its merger with Vodafone would substantially lessen competition in the sector.

Vodafone Hutchison Australia says it has engaged closely with the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission about its proposed merger with TPG Telecom, providing significant information about the consumer benefits and challenges faced by providers.
