Last rollback of business restrictions expected soon

Following the release of AccelerateSC’s final report, Lt. Gov. Pamela Evette noted that the last business restrictions in deference to the coronavirus pandemic will be lifted soon — maybe even in an announcement later this week. The report includes statewide COVID-19 expenditures and further guidance.

Food Lion buys Bi-Lo stores
Food Lion plans to purchase 62 Bi-Lo and Harvey's Supermarket stores in South Carolina, North Carolina and Georgia from Southeastern Grocers. The transaction will include 15 Bi-lo locations in the Upstate.

Spartanburg chamber hires two new consultants

The Spartanburg Area Chamber of Commerce has hired former Greenville economic development director Nancy Whitworth and retired Spartanburg superintendent Russell Booker to serve as consultants on economic development and inclusion projects.

S.C. loses thousands of construction jobs

South Carolina lost 6,100 construction jobs from March to April 2020 as the industry saw job losses in every state except South Dakota. An analysis of federal data by the Associated General Contractors of America found that nationwide, the industry lost 975,000 jobs — a drop of 13% — from March to April.

Curfew timing based on daylight for police

Responding to questions from businesses already struggling to recover from the coronavirus pandemic, Charleston and Charleston County officials said they took their lead from law enforcement on the timing of multiple days of curfews.
