ACDIS/AHIMA updated practice brief released!

Dear CDI professional,

Today marks the release of the 2022 update to the co-authored ACDIS/AHIMA Guidelines for Achieving a Compliant Query Practice©*. This practice brief supersedes all previously published versions. ACDIS and AHIMA are jointly soliciting public comments through Tuesday, October 25, related to the brief so that the co-authors may reconvene to discuss and add any needed clarifications.

You can access the full practice brief and the link to submit comments by clicking here.

Both ACDIS and AHIMA are strongly committed to working on this industry guidance together so that our members can apply consistency to their compliant query practice. I would like to express my gratitude to Tammy Combs, RN, MSN, CCS, CCDS, CDIP, CNE, AHIMA practice director at CDI and Clinical Foundations for working with me on this endeavor.

We also collaborated with a committed group of authors who dedicated weekly two-hour meetings, often late into the afternoon on Fridays, to create the new practice brief. The following team members worked tirelessly to write and organize this update:

  • Sheri Blanchard, RN, MSN, FNP/BC, CCDS, CCS
  • Sharme Brodie, RN, CCDS, CCDS-O, CRC
  • Karen Carr MS, BSN, RN, CCDS, CDIP
  • Keisha Downes, BSN, RN, CCDS, CCS
  • Dorene Hughes, MSN, RN, CCDS, CDIP, ACHS
  • Carole Liebner, RHIT, CDIP, CCS
  • Kay Piper, RHIA, CDIP, CCS
  • Melissa Potts, RN, BSN, CCDS, CDIP

Subscribers to CDI Strategies will see a full note from me this Thursday covering many of the details of the new brief and its importance, but for now, I encourage you all to read the brief and submit your comments on this important document. Again, you can access the brief here or copy/paste this URL into your browser: https://acdis.org/resources/guidelines-achieving-compliant-query-practice%E2%80%942022-update

All the best,

Laurie L. Prescott, RN, MSN, CCDS, CCDS-O, CDIP, CRC
