Grants for festivals to showcase emerging UK designers

Grants between £2,000 and £4,000 are available to biennales and festivals outside the UK who would like to showcase the work of early-stage UK architects or designers. Deadline to submit proposals is on 15 September, 6.00 p.m. (UK time).

Propel your craft business forward

It is never too late to plan and grow your craft business. The Craft Toolkit, a digital platform commissioned by the British Council for Crafting Futures programme, has gathered an amazing list of resources and films from makers in Southeast Asia and the UK.

Tropical Climate Forensics

Check out Philippine Islands Tropical Climate Forensics, an online diorama developed by Derek Tumala and the Museum of Contemporary Art and Design (MCAD Manila) that explores the climate crisis across the past, present and a speculative future. This is part of the British Council's World Weather Creative Commissions, a creative response to climate emergency through arts, science and digital technology. The online exhibition will run until 22 July 2023.

Building an inclusive creative economy

Connections Through Culture grantee Maya Tamayo conducted a research that would provide a roadmap towards more inclusive policies on arts, culture and the creative economy at the local level. The research reviewed existing laws and policies on arts and culture in the Philippines and the United Kingdom.

Sustainable and ethical practices in arts and culture

The Asia-Europe Foundation (ASEF) gathered cultural professionals around the world, including British Council’s Head of Arts, Malaya del Rosario, to examine policies, support mechanisms and forms of cross-regional collaboration. The report, Recalibrating the Compass: Sustainable and Ethical Practices in the Cultural Sector, emphasised rights-based approaches in cultural organisations and encouraged fairer approaches in international cultural exchanges.

Residency programme for musicians

We are excited to announce that OneBeat, an initiative of the U.S. State Department’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, is now accepting applications for a two-month music residency programme. Submit your applications by Friday, 2 September, 5.00 p.m. (EDT). In case you missed it, we also have opportunities for musicians at the International Silent Film Festival.
