Hello Voornaam,

Remember earlier this week I reported on Ascendis Health's new chief financial officer, Cheryl-Jane (CJ) Kujenga? She was previously CFO at recruitment and training group Adcorp and served as its interim CEO from last October until May this year. As the CFO, she led that company's balance sheet restructuring process.

Well, it appears that she can take at least part of the credit for a massive recovery in Adcorp's half-year earnings. Its shares rocketed yesterday after it issued a trading statement alerting the market to the improvement in profit and its debt position.

PSG Group's shares also closed higher. It reported a headline loss but that follows its unbundling of Capitec in August and a change to the way it accounts for its investments. It has declared an interim dividend, however, and share buybacks could be on the cards due to the discount its shares trade at relative to the value of its portfolio.

More on those stories to follow in your final newsletter for the week, along with updates from Mediclinic and Pepkor, as well as all the latest mergers and acquisitions news from DealMakers.

If you haven't watched yet, follow this link to find out why Proxy View shareholder activist Theo Botha believes shareholders will approve Sasol's sale of a stake in its Lake Charles chemicals project in the US.

Finally, with the end of the year approaching, Rand Swiss wealth manager Viv Govender says time is running out if you want to make use of your R1 million discretionary offshore allowance for the year.

I hope you have a good day.

The latest from Ingham Analytics

Last week, Ingham Analytics issued an Energy Monitor, a new theme on developments in the broad energy basket, and today they are issuing their first Mining Monitor with the same theme for miners. The note is entitled "Nickel for Elon?" and as the name suggests delves into a little-known metal but one that could make waves in future as electrification of vehicles gathers pace. Fun fact, a Tesla Model 3 contains around 30kg of nickel but only a small quantity of lithium. There is one company angling to get its fair share of the action. You may also wish to check another metal in "Gold a must?" and, with the Sasol share price falling again, "Over a barrel?" gives context as to why you'd want to stay clear.
