Dear Friend,

Welcome back to my Week in Review newsletter. Please remember to follow me on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, and YouTube for regular updates on how I am serving the people of South Carolina!

As another week in Congress comes to a close, my colleagues and I remain focused on advancing the critical legislative efforts that will shape the future of our nation. There is still much work ahead, but together, Senate Republicans are committed to addressing the challenges before us and delivering lasting solutions that reflect the needs of the American people. Each day we work to build a stronger future for all Americans, and I am honored to be a part of this effort.

“And we urge you, brothers and sisters, warn those who are idle and disruptive, encourage the disheartened, help the weak, be patient with everyone.”

Week in Review

Ensuring Our Disaster Response Isn’t Caught Flatfooted

The Small Business Administration’s mismanagement of its disaster fund has hindered our ability to support Hurricanes Helene and Milton victims. Anytime our nation faces a natural disaster, we should have the necessary resources to address the aftermath. I introduced the SBA Disaster Transparency Act, which requires the Small Business Administration to make its monthly reporting requirements for the Disaster Loan Account available to the public. I am glad to be leading this effort with my colleagues to bring more oversight to the SBA and ensure our disaster response isn’t caught flatfooted.

Sickle Cell Awareness Resolution Passes the Senate

This week, a resolution I introduced with Senator Cory Booker (D-N.J.) designating September 2024 as Sickle Cell Disease Awareness Month unanimously passed the Senate! Sickle cell disease is the most common inherited blood disorder in the United States, affecting one in every 365 Black newborns. Yet despite the prevalence of SCD, research and treatments remain far too limited. The passage of this resolution speaks to our commitment to raising awareness and seeking out legislation that will help our medical community fight–and, one day, cure–this painful disease.

Political Discrimination in the Wake of a Disaster is Unacceptable

The federal government is supposed to serve all Americans, not just the ones they agree with. Political discrimination in the wake of a disaster is unacceptable. That’s why I joined Senators Thom Tillis (R-N.C.), Ted Budd (R-N.C.) and 15 Republican colleagues in a letter to U.S. Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Administrator Deanne Criswell expressing concern over recent reports that a FEMA employee advised disaster assistance teams in Florida responding to Hurricane Milton to avoid homes that had yard signs supporting President-elect Donald Trump.

Sharing the #SCSweetTea

Congratulations to the University of South Carolina Marching Band on being chosen to perform in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade! This is an incredible achievement, and I have no doubt they will represent USC with unmatched pride and excellence.

Such an accomplishment would not have been possible without the overwhelming support of 1,500 fans, alumni, families, businesses, organizations, students, and campus and community partners who contributed to raising the funds needed to send the full band to New York. Thanks to USC Basketball Coach Dawn Staley, Football Coach Shane Beamer, and music superstar Darius Rucker for their generous donations, which helped the band reach its goal. This collective support serves as a powerful reminder of the strength and unity of the USC community. Go Gamecocks!

Fox News: Tim Scott says Biden regulators should quit it, give Trump a 'fresh slate'

By Danielle Wallace

November 19, 2024

Sen. Tim Scott, R-S.C., said regulators under President Biden should quit doing their jobs to allow President-elect Trump a "fresh slate" when he takes office in January.

In a letter to Biden on Sunday, Scott said Americans "across the country rejected your administration’s radical economic agenda and delivered President Trump and the incoming Congress a clear mandate to usher in a new era of government."

"Given this mandate," Scott wrote, "it is incumbent upon you and your administration to ensure that President Trump can implement the agenda the American people voted for by allowing him to take office on January 20th with a fresh slate."
