Certified Hero Zach reached the sixth watchtower on the section he was climbing of the Great Wall of China. He leaned against the stone building, breathing hard and waiting for his parents. He wanted to go to the highest watchtower on this mountain. Their guide, a young Chinese woman, had said, “To Chinese people, anyone who climbs up there is a hero.” She’d told Zach that if he made it, he could get an official hero certificate. “Whew!” his dad said, catching up. “I’m glad our steps at home aren’t this big.” By now Zach felt rested. He stood up straight, saying, “We can’t stop now. We’ve got to go all the way to the top.” His father laughed. “All right, hero boy. Just give me and your mom a minute to catch our breath!” When Jesus climbed the hill called Calvary, he became the greatest hero of all time. There he accomplished the mission God gave him. He died on the cross for the sins of the world and saved everyone who believes in him. Want to read Jesus’ hero certificate? Take a look at the Scripture passage below. Bible verse: Jesus said, “It is finished.” With that, he bowed his head and gave up his spirit. – John 19:30 Words to Treasure: [Jesus] humbled himself by becoming obedient to death — even death on a cross! Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow. – Philippians 2:8-10 |
