Hey, Batter, Batter! Jordan swung at the baseball as it flew by. “Strike three!” the umpire called. Jordan walked back to the bench, shoulders drooped. The coach said, “Nice try, Jordan. But you’re not swinging level, like I told you.” Dropping the bat, Jordan replied, “Yes, I am!” The coach shook his head. “No, you’re not. You’re still swinging upward.” He clapped a hand on Jordan’s shoulder. “If you swing level, you’ll have a much better chance of hitting the ball.” Jordan sat and took off his batting helmet. He’d heard the same thing a million times during practice. He knew what he needed to do. The next time I step up to the plate, he decided, I’m going to do it! The easy part about being a Christian is reading the Bible. Or listening to someone read it to you. It’s a simple matter to learn what God’s Word says. The hard part is doing what it says. Knowing a lot about the Bible doesn’t make you a godly person. You have to put what you know into practice. Bible Verse: Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. – James 1:22 Did You Know? Jesus met all kinds of people. He could always tell which ones were godly. He didn’t recognize them by how well they knew God’s Word. He recognized them by what they did with what they knew. |
