After 26 years of rule, 3 women unite in bid to oust Europe's 'last dictator'

For 26 years, Alexander Lukashenko, often referred to as “Europe's last dictator,” has ruled Belarus with an iron fist. But in Sunday’s presidential election, he faces an unexpected challenge.

For weeks, three women have held rallies with tens of thousands of supporters — the largest expression of dissent seen in years. Although there is little doubt that Lukashenko will remain in power after the election, the challenge symbolizes the electorate’s hunger for change.
