After this Lafayette apartment complex sold, many residents given 5-day notices to leave

by Adam Daigle | Acadiana business editor

Good morning, Acadiana business news readers. I've got your daily dose of business news.

You may recall the story from last month that an apartment complex near Oakbourne Country Club had sold, but the story has another leg to it. Citing the poor condition of the property, the buyers are asking the residents to vacate. Residents have been told over the next 45 days they will receive 5-day notices to leave.

The problem? Many of these residents are near or below the poverty line, and they are discovering the brutal truth of the housing market in Lafayette and everywhere else. Rents are way higher, and there's not much available.

Spaces are so scarce, one source told me, that there are people in shelters right now with housing vouchers that they can't use because they can't find a place.

You can read the full story here.

Have a great day.
