On Dec. 22, a fire started on the Mueller family's dairy operation and quickly spread with the high winds. The milking parlor and cattle sheds are a complete loss. Equipment was destroyed. The majority of their 140-cow herd was also lost in the fire.

On Friday, the House averted a government shutdown by voting 225 to 201 in favor of the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2023 — the omnibus spending bill. The bill will now move to President Joe Biden's desk, where he is expected to sign it this week.

The controversial Trump-era border restriction, known as Title 42, will remain in effect while legal challenges play out. The move ensures federal officials can continue to swiftly expell migrants at the U.S. border, at least for the next several months.
