Where's Johnny Jet?

Airline executives have admitted that flight loads have plateaued since the virus is still out of control in the United States. I'm not sure why some politicians and the general public can’t understand the fact that if we don’t keep COVID-19 at bay, the travel, service and entertainment industries won’t bounce back, not to mention the tens of thousands of additional lives that will be lost. Wake up, people! Follow the advice of health officials and not politicians or conspiracy theorists that you read on Facebook.

The TSA throughput numbers support what the airlines are saying. Take a look for yourself, keeping in mind that they account for airline crew and airport workers, as well as passengers.

Airlines and Airports Update Face Mask Policies
One reason why COVID-19 is out of control is that many Americans aren’t wearing face masks. Well, the travel industry knows that the situation has become political for some bizarre reason, and they’re now putting a stop to it. Here’s the story.

Hotels Update Face Mask Policies
And not only are you now going to be required to wear a mask on a plane, in an airport and in a hotel no matter the jurisdiction ...

Disney World Updates Face Mask Policy
... But also at Disney World, as it too announced this week that it's updating its face mask policy so anti-face maskers can’t use this loophole.

Wearing A Mask Shouldn't Be A Big Deal
Experts say there’s growing evidence that wearing a mask can not only limit the spread of the virus but is also associated with less severe versions of the illness in people who do get it. Here, meanwhile, is what happens to oxygen levels when you wear a mask. An Irish doctor created a short video that went viral proving that "face coverings / masks don’t reduce your oxygen levels!" He managed to get six face masks on and with no effect on his oxygen levels!

Bahamas closes to U.S. tourists after COVID-19 cases spike
Well, that was quick. It should come as a surprise to no one that the Bahamas has closed its borders to most U.S. tourists after a spike in COVID-19. Wealthy Americans can still get in, though, if they use this loophole.

QANTAS 747 Farewell
I was watching the live feed from 7 News in Australia (I tweeted it and shared it on Facebook) of QANTAS’ last 747 flight that departed Australia for the final time. They did a marvelous job sending off the "Queen of the Skies" that made air travel so much more pleasurable and accessible. Planes no longer had to stop to refuel between continents. Check out the short video of the route they took for a special sendoff to the California desert.

Baseball is Back

My favorite pastime (besides traveling) is watching my beloved New York Yankees play ball. I’m looking forward to tonight’s game because who knows how many games they'll get in this year. GOOD TO KNOW: T-Mobile is bringing back a popular promotion! Until August 3, all T-Mobile users can redeem a free, year-long subscription to MLB.tv, which streams full, live MLB games. If you’re a T-Mobile user like I am, this means a couple of clicks gets you access to hundreds of out-of-market MLB games for free all season.

Sadly, I don’t think the MLB will finish this restarted season because they’re not playing in a bubble and coronavirus cases are out of control. Let’s hope I’m wrong. It will be interesting to watch games with no fans (kind of like watching the Miami Marlins games). However, I just read that games viewed on Fox will have a virtual crowd. Here are some of the incredible features pulled directly from this MSN article:

  • "The fans can do up to 500 actions, ranging from high fives during a home run to doing the wave. The system is also advanced where it can control the percentage of fans in the stadium during a game as well as who they are cheering for."
  • "For example, Saturday's Brewers-Cubs game could create a crowd that is 75% Cubs and 25% Brewers. It can also make it appear as if most of them have left if it is a 9-1 ballgame in the ninth inning."
  • "The system will also be able to adapt to the weather. When the temperature gets colder in the fall, winter jackets and hats can be added to the fans."

United Airlines is set to be the first airline (that I’m aware of) to run air filters not just while in flight but throughout the whole boarding/deplaning and taxiing processes, as well.
