• At one time, this was the busiest single-runway airport in the world.
• A full-scale fake city was constructed to disguise the airport area when viewed from the air to protect against an enemy bomber attack during World War II. (Post construction, it was not uncommon for pilots to get lost or be unable to locate the airfield.)
